Gerard Butler beats up a paparazzo – Finally!
All I can say is FINALLY!!! Gerry has been way too cool and controlled given everything that has been going on around him. Even the Icelandic yellow press has this!!! But those silly journalists mention 300 and Tomb Raider, but forget to mention that he co-produced Wrath of Gods!… and, yes… played Beowulf. The article reminded me of the stories of how he used to fight all the time as a teenager, back when he first met Tony Curran (see the long interview on the Wrath of Gods DVD) The only thing this will do is raise his profile. I’m not sure he needs more attention though. He’s everywhere these days. I thought the in-flight version of Nim’s Island was better than the one I saw in the Chinese Theater.

What type of person are you? You actually are applauding his violence? Are you a moron? Using your warped philosophy, that means that if I watch WOG and hate it… I should come pound on you.
Advocating (and cheering, as you have done) violence says a lot about what type of person you are. Obviously, you aren’t too well heeled.
Dear Jon, this comment is for you, please, not for the entire universe on the Internet!!
We met you in Arlington, Virginia last spring, when you came to show WOG and speak to our group of Gerry fans. And you and my husband Chuck had breakfast in the hotel coffee shop! Chuck said being with you was the highlight of his trip! Recall this was a ladies event: a Gerry Butler convention, and he came with me to carry the luggage. (Not really; I am teasing Chuck. He enjoys meeting my GB friends and he had lots of time to visit our son and daughter-in-law in DC.)
Jon, it is distressing to hear about the economic situation in Iceland. Not the same here, but I have heard of families losing most of their retirement income. Luckily for us (Chuck and me) we are very conservative, and had very few, if any, stocks. Still there is risk, and Chuck intends to retire in July if he can…
How can anyone help the situation? No way I can determine. I don’t understand the reasons things have turned so bleak financially. It makes no sense. But I guess we just have to be frugal and patient.
Anyway, I intend to hold on to the “extra” (unopened) copies of WOG. They may finance our grandsons’ college educations!! If only…
So come see us if you ever come to the mountains of beautiful east Tennessee. We enjoy visitors and have a large house and so far, we have not had to take in roomers! LOL. Take care of yourself. We look forward to your next project.
P.S. We saw online that Gerry and some of his show biz friends have opened a Korean BarBQ place in LA. There were pictures of Gerry as a bartender!
Gee. Hope he doesn’t quit his “day job.”
Your friend, Merle
Yes, I’ll be the first to admit it. I’m a horrible person. I think some of the most aggressive and obnoxious paparazzi crowd simply needs to be beaten up, but I never saw that as “my philosophy”, just a gut reaction of sort.
Normally I don’t respond to silly messages, but I think I could have fun with this one.
Your philosophy is clearly warped (as you said) and most clearly naive. From your style and language I would guess that you are around fourteen years of age so I won’t be too hard on you, but if you hated the film I would give you a refund. After all it was your own choice to buy the film and watch it. If, on the other hand, you would ever find me stalking you, invading your privacy, making your life hell, not respecting you, trying to exploit you, like the paparazzi do… then you would have my permission to “pound on me”. You don’t have to worry, even if I am a “not too well heeled moron”, I would never do that to you or anyone else.
Bravo Jon! Thank you for being outspoken enough to say what we are all thinking. I whole-heartedly agree with you, and cheered him as well. I have always thought Gerry far too saint-like in his dealings with the insidious underbelly of low-level journalism. (An apology to all my highly esteemed journalist friends, for even loosely associating you with the paparazzi). Incidently- As for someone who *has* actually met you and can vouch for the, “type of person you are” (no offense to the outspoken party in question, well maybe just a little, considering I dislike seeing my friends being condemned, unjustly or otherwise) it is my humble opinion, you are very “well-heeled”, and more importantly; a man of great character. After all, it take more strength to “live on your feet, than to die on your knees”. And, if this offends the offending party in question, may I apologize in advance; but don’t we usually see in others, and accuse them of, what we ourselves are most guilty of being…? (Just food for thought and my objective consideration of the facts)
I just ran across this blog. IMO, Gerard Butler chose to be a movie star. I’m sure he had some idea about the paparazzi long before he actually made it (and I don’t think he has actually made it. He is far from being an A lister). So now he finds he doesn’t like to be hounded by the paparazzi, but I would bet he wouldn’t like being totally ignored by them, either. This kind of action on Gerard Butler’s part is the same thing that has made me boycott Russell Crowe’s movies. The last time I checked, I didn’t think a person was a 14 year old just because she disagrees with your opinion. If a man had written that, would you have addressed him as a naive 14 year old?
Ibisia, I hope you won’t let this brutish bully attitude keep you from posting on other blogs and voicing your opinion, because you always have a right to your opinion.
Mr. Gustafsson, I wish you the best of luck as you pursue your career. Perhaps we should warn the paparazzi to stay clear of you. That would mean no media exposure. I don’t think you need to worry, though. The paparazzi only go after the famous.
Kind of after-the-fact but between you and me, I think more people should pound on the more obnoxious paps as a routine – they might start to monitor their own behavior better. (And I’m not prone to violence either but enough is enough.) The current variety are not just hanging around nightspots and premieres to snap. They are confrontational, indisious and dangerous. Nobody “chooses” to be hounded every minute of the day by rude and provocative bullies and that’s what a lot of the new version of paps have become. Many normally very well behaved celebs have had run-ins with these vermin. And if the LA DA’s don’t see a problem over “self-defense” (that’s how I see it) then neither do I.
As to WOG, PLEASE make as many versions as you want and I’ll buy every one repeatedly! But don’t tease! That’s wicked!
Way to go Jon! Sold out of WOG and for Gerry finally doing something about the papazzos.. I along with a few others had first hand experince with them in NYC when Gerry was going into NBC studios to promote 300 and had nothing but problems with the paparzzos..
Go Gerry!
Of course, he could probably be a little better at_avoiding_paparazzi…you pretty much know where those guys are likely to be…but my respect for him went up greatly when he did that. Is that wrong?
Jon, you don’t think he did it to raise his profile?!
